No. ProsaBridge comes as an add-in for Microsoft Word and as a web app in your browser at app.prosabridge.com. In the add-in, you translate the Word document you have open. In the web app, you upload your manuscript as a Word, LibreOffice, InDesign or PDF file, approve the translation plan, and download the translation. There is nothing to install.
In the Word add-in, you sign in with your organization's Microsoft account (Microsoft Entra ID). Your organization is created automatically the first time someone signs in. In the web app, you sign in with your email address and a password; you get your account by invitation. There you can also turn on two-step sign-in with an authenticator app. There is no sign-up form: only organizations that our team has verified and activated get access.
This is a high-touch B2B process. You request a quote or book a demo with our team. We issue a manual invoice based on your selected word tier. Payment is completed via SEPA wire transfer. Upon receipt, we credit the prepaid words to your organization's account.
No. Your prepaid word credits never expire. Use them on your schedule, across as many translation projects as you need.
ProsaBridge translates Word files (.docx) in the add-in and in the web app. In the web app, you can also upload LibreOffice files (.odt), InDesign Markup files (.idml) and PDFs. Word, LibreOffice and InDesign files come back in the same format, and InDesign files keep their layout, styles and images. ProsaBridge converts a PDF into a Word file; this works for PDFs that contain text, not for scans. To translate an InDesign document (.indd), first export it in InDesign via File > Export > InDesign Markup (IDML).
ProsaBridge uses the latest XLIFF architecture for 100 % preservation of your document layout. In Word, this technology requires the modern .docx format. If you have an old .doc file open in "Compatibility Mode," ProsaBridge automatically disables itself to prevent layout errors. Simply save your document as .docx, and the tool will activate immediately.
The application and database run in Frankfurt, and uploaded documents and translations are stored in Cloudflare R2 under EU jurisdiction. The public subprocessor register records every provider location and transfer status. Live source documents and translations are removed within 14 days after completion. Separately submitted feedback snapshots are erased on resolution or after 30 days, and database backups rotate after 14 days. Customer documents are not used to train or improve AI models.
ProsaBridge translates in both directions between eight languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, and Chinese. Chinese source documents may use Simplified or Traditional script, and translations into Chinese come in either script. That gives you 56 translation directions. All languages are included with every pricing plan. If you need a language not listed, contact us to discuss your requirements.
